A few days leading up to Katlyn and Caleb’s wedding, Caleb emailed me wanting to secure a plan for rain. The forecast didn’t look favorable, and in his email he used the words “torrential downpour” which was exactly what my weather app was saying. As I drove to the wedding a few days later, it appeared the storm had been pushed back. It looked like we might still get to do the first look outside! I was ecstatic, and knew I’d need to make the most of every rain-less second I had that day.

However, once I set foot on the campus of UW Madison on the terrace of the Memorial Union, I looked out over the lake and it was only blue skies as far as the eye could see! No looming storm clouds on the horizon or anything! To everyone’s surprise, we’d come to find out that the scheduled downpour had literally dissipated- there wasn’t a drop the entire day. And even before knowing this *new* forecast, Caleb and Katlyn’s attitudes were always 100% positive, optimistic, and go with the flow about every decision.

Their day was incredibly beautiful from start to finish, but the best part was seeing Caleb and Katlyn with each other. The nervous excitement before the first look melted into a familiar comfort after, and anyone could tell how at home they felt with each other. They each wrote each other the longest notes I’ve ever seen (NOT an exaggeration!) to be read before seeing each other. It is so obvious how deeply they care for each other; and while they are funny and lighthearted people, together they are also tender and selfless. I know these qualities will combine during the lifetime of their marriage and continue to knit them deeply together.

Katlyn and Caleb- I so enjoyed our time from meeting you at your engagement session to saying goodbye on the dance floor at your wedding! While we were [thankfully] able to escape the rain on your wedding day, your lives together will surely have times of both sun and storms. My hope is that you’ll weather it all together, side by side, taking turns holding the umbrella. Cheers to a lifetime of love, you two!

I think this is right when Katlyn’s dad whispered, “We can still leave!!” Haha!

One of my absolute favorites!!
