Kelsey and Paul’s wedding day was incredible in so many ways- a beautiful mass, a bridal party full of their closest friends, and a reception where young and old alike lit up the dance floor! It was so great for me to be back in my home state and I knew it was going to be a great one because there “ain’t no party like a Detroit party cuz a Detroit party don’t stop!” (only TRUE Michiganders will get that reference!!).

The day began at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rockwood, Kelsey’s home parish. We took pictures in the beautiful Elizabeth Park at the area of what the locals called the “homecoming bridge.” I just love hearing things like that in conversations between bridesmaids/the bride because you can tell the places that we are at hold so much significance to them, and that there is real history behind these locations. My guess is that the church Kelsey got married in is also the church she had her First Communion in, and the park where we took her bridal party portraits is also where she and her friends would meet for pictures before the homecoming dance in high school. THESE are the truly important things in life coming full-circle, and I love it! We ended the day at the beautiful Bentley Banquets in Wyandotte. If I lived closer, I would totally hope that more of my brides would choose this as a venue! It had beautiful chandeliers everywhere you looked as well as a nice patio complete with a gazebo, lounge seating, and fountain.

I first met Kelsey back in an English class at Loyola, it was such a joy and honor for me to document her and Paul’s wedding day. There were so many details to their day that made it uniquely theirs, from Paul’s handcrafted wedding ring to Kelsey’s stuffed giraffe Softie donning his own tux! The best man, Charlie, also happened to have been ordained a priest just two weeks prior to their wedding! I can’t think of many other people who are able to say that their best friend celebrated their wedding mass!!

Thank you, Kelsey and Paul, for allowing me into such a special and sacred day. Twoje zdrowie!
